Fortune Teller by French artist Julie Stephen Chheng runs from 2 October to 15 November 2026 at One Bangkok. The main exhibition is on the second floor of The Storeys, with parts of the experience spreading across the wider development rather than remaining inside a single gallery room.

The project turns eight elemental forces into animated nature spirits: Water, Fire, Sky, Earth, Thunder, Shadow, Light and Green Leaf. Visitors meet them through an interactive projection, an augmented-reality trail and paper-based creative activities, creating a format that is playful enough for families but layered enough for adults interested in digital storytelling.

Start With The Projection

Begin at the main display on the second floor. The projection responds to visitors and reveals personalised messages and shifting dreamlike landscapes. Stand back long enough to understand how movement affects the scene before rushing forward. The work is not a fixed film, so another person’s sequence may look different from yours even within the same visit.

Meet The Eight Spirits

The eye-like characters connect to water, fire, sky, earth, thunder, shadow, light and green leaf. They draw on the Yijing and other philosophical traditions without requiring prior study. Treat each encounter as a prompt rather than a prediction. The pleasure comes from interpreting a symbol through personal experience and then comparing that response with someone else’s.

Use The AR Trail

Download the free Fortune Teller AR app for iOS or Android before starting the wider search. The trail asks visitors to find and awaken characters hidden around One Bangkok. Charge the phone, allow camera permissions only as needed and carry a battery pack. Headphones can help with audio while keeping the shared space quieter for other visitors.

Try A Workshop

Creative sessions combine paper craft and digital ideas, including character design, paper crowns, ceramic painting and DIY keychains. Individual schedules, capacities and fees may vary, so check the current registration page before travelling specifically for one activity. Families should confirm age guidance and whether an adult needs to stay with a child.

Browse The Book Corner

The Independent Print Club by SPACEBAR ZINE curates a reading corner alongside the experience. Use it to slow the visit after the more reactive projection and AR elements. Artist books and independent print can reveal how paper, sequence and play shape Chheng’s wider practice, making the digital work feel connected to physical publishing rather than separated from it.

Collect Without Rushing

Souvenir cards feature the eyes of the eight nature spirits and can be scanned later for daily guidance. There are also social check-in and gift mechanics involving stickers, retail e-vouchers or limited shopping bags under separate conditions. Treat these as optional extras. The exhibition is stronger when the hunt supports attention, not when gifts become the only objective.

Know The Artist

Julie Stephen Chheng works across books, illustration, scenography and digital media. She studied at Arts Décoratifs de Paris, completed residencies in Hong Kong and Kyoto, and has taken her Uramado AR project to venues around the world. Fortune Teller continues that interest in how tangible images and responsive technology can invite a participant into a story.

Plan A Quiet Visit

Weekday mornings or early afternoons should offer more room to test the interactive elements, while weekends may feel livelier for families. Avoid blocking projections while photographing, keep pathways clear and ask before filming other visitors. Because the work appears across the development, allow at least an hour and more if joining a workshop or reading.

Getting There

One Bangkok sits at the Rama IV and Wireless Road junction with direct access near MRT Lumphini. Follow signs for The Storeys and use the second-floor exhibition point as the anchor before exploring satellite elements. Save the venue map in case mobile signal becomes busy and agree on a meeting point when visiting with children or a group.

Who It Suits

The exhibition suits families, design students, illustration fans and visitors who enjoy participatory art more than silent object viewing. People who prefer a conventional museum can still focus on the projection and book corner without completing every digital task. The best approach is curious but unhurried: play, read, interpret and leave space for another visitor’s encounter.
