Narrow ridge on Khao Chang Phueak in Kanchanaburi
The exposed ridge makes this a serious trek

Thong Pha Phum National Park plans to open the Khao Chang Phueak long-distance nature trail from 1 November 2026 to 31 January 2027. The route is limited to 60 visitors per day and is completed over two days and one night.

Know the route

Khao Chang Phueak rises about 1,249 metres above sea level near Ban E-Tong in Pilok, Kanchanaburi. The roughly eight-kilometre trail includes steep, exposed ground and the narrow San Kom Meed ridge.

This is not a casual viewpoint walk. Hikers camp overnight, carry essential supplies and follow park staff. Anyone uncomfortable with heights, fixed ropes or remote conditions should choose another national-park experience.

Follow booking rounds

Reservations are announced in rounds through the official Thong Pha Phum National Park Facebook page and completed through the park’s designated online form. Use only the current link published by the park.

The daily quota can fill quickly. Each applicant must provide accurate identity details and follow the grouping rule stated for that round. A form submission is not a permit until the park publishes or sends confirmation.

Check eligibility

Current season reporting states participant ages and health restrictions, but secondary reports differ on the upper age limit. Treat the park’s Thai-language announcement and successful-booking instructions as controlling.

Original identification and booking evidence are required at registration. Medical conditions that make long-distance hiking unsafe can result in refusal. Be honest, and seek medical advice before booking if there is any doubt.

Budget the park fees

Reported park charges are THB40 for Thai adults and THB20 for Thai children, THB200 for foreign adults and THB100 for foreign children. Vehicle and camping charges are separate.

Porters are arranged through the Ban E-Tong community and safety support may carry another fee. Reconfirm every amount with the park because community services and seasonal charges can change.

Choose the right visit

Khao Chang Phueak makes most sense for fit hikers who can manage an exposed two-day route, basic camping and strict park instructions. Start by deciding what a successful visit looks like, then build the timing around that purpose. A clear priority prevents small distractions from consuming the limited part of the day that matters most.

Check the official page again on the morning of travel. Hours, capacity, weather, maintenance and special events can change after an article is published. A quick confirmation is especially worthwhile when Thong Pha Phum National Park is not close to the next stop on the itinerary.

Plan the journey

Reach Ban E-Tong early enough for the park registration window and mandatory assembly. Provincial roads can be slow, so an overnight stay before the trek is safer than a same-morning dash. Save the destination in a map application before leaving and keep the name in Thai where useful. Bangkok and provincial travel times can widen sharply in rain, at school dismissal or near the evening rush.

Leave enough margin to arrive calmly. That buffer can cover a missed turn, a queue, parking or a short walk from the drop-off point. If the return trip will be late, decide on a licensed taxi or reputable ride-hailing pickup before the phone battery becomes low.

Pack for comfort

Carry only what supports the visit: charged phone, water where permitted, suitable clothing and a small payment backup. A light layer can help in strong air conditioning, while sun and rain protection matter whenever part of the experience is outdoors.

Carry suitable footwear, food, enough water, sun and rain protection, lighting and a compact first-aid kit. Alcohol, foam containers, pets and single-use plastics are prohibited. Personal needs should guide the final plan. Travellers managing allergies, mobility limits, pregnancy, medication or other health considerations should contact the venue or responsible authority directly rather than relying on a general guide.

Keep the day flexible

Pair Khao Chang Phueak with one nearby stop rather than a chain of distant attractions. A shorter plan creates room for an unexpectedly good meal, a longer conversation or a change in weather without turning the rest of the day into a race.

Prices and inclusions should be confirmed before payment. Keep any booking message or receipt available offline, and ask about cancellation, taxes, deposits or excluded services when those details affect the decision.

Review the experience

Take a moment after leaving Khao Chang Phueak to note what was genuinely useful, what cost more time than expected and what a future visitor should verify. This is particularly helpful when the experience involves changing seasonal conditions, live availability or services delivered by several operators.

Keep receipts, confirmation messages and photographs of any important condition until the booking, purchase or visit is fully settled. If something differs from what was confirmed, contact the responsible venue or authority promptly with dates and evidence. A calm, specific account is more likely to produce a useful answer than a general complaint.
