Anantara Siam Bangkok After Its Transformation: What Has Changed

The new Garden Pool Villa brings a resort-style retreat to Ratchadamri.

Anantara Siam Bangkok has completed a USD 50 million transformation of one of Ratchadamri’s best-known hotels. The building first opened in 1983 and retains the low-rise, garden-centred character associated with architect George Wimberly, but its 335 rooms and suites now sit within a more contemporary version of that original Thai resort-in-the-city idea.

For travellers, the renovation matters most in three places: the standard rooms have been refreshed, two headline accommodation types have been introduced, and the hotel’s social spaces feel more deliberately connected to the gardens and pool.

The new pool villa

The Garden Pool Villa is the clearest departure from a conventional city-hotel room. It places a private pool and terrace beside the hotel’s garden setting, creating a resort-style retreat in central Bangkok. This is the category to compare if outdoor privacy matters more than a skyline view.

A pool villa also changes the practical questions. Ask about pool depth, child supervision, mosquito management, terrace privacy and how much direct sun reaches the water. The hotel’s pet-friendly policy allows one dog or cat up to 10 kg in designated accommodation, but confirm that the exact villa rate is pet eligible before bringing an animal.

The Jim Thompson suite

The two-bedroom Jim Thompson Explorer Suite is the transformation’s most specific design statement. The 198 sqm layout uses textile references and art connected to the Jim Thompson story. It accommodates a large family or group, with the official room page listing up to seven adults, or five adults and two children, depending on the configuration.

Current packages can include experiences such as a Jim Thompson House visit, dining, cocktails, spa time and airport transfers. Those inclusions are rate dependent, not permanent features of every booking. Compare the live offer line by line and confirm which experiences require advance reservations.

Rooms and shared spaces

The wider room inventory now has updated materials and layouts while keeping the hotel’s Thai decorative language. When comparing room types, look beyond photographs to floor area, outlook, connecting-room availability and whether lounge privileges are included.

Around the property, the garden, pool and lobby remain central to the experience. The Garden Terrace gives the pool edge a stronger food-and-drink role, while the hotel’s established restaurants continue to provide distinct choices: Madison for steakhouse dining, Spice Market for Thai food, Shintaro for Japanese dishes, Biscotti for Italian cooking, Guilty for a livelier Latin-influenced mood, and Mocha & Muffins for casual coffee and pastries.

Location advantage

Ratchadamri BTS is the easiest rail access. The location works well for Siam shopping, Lumphini Park, central business meetings and restaurants around Langsuan. It is central without sitting directly inside a shopping mall, which helps the hotel keep its garden atmosphere.

Traffic remains a factor. Use the BTS for predictable daytime journeys and reserve a car with extra time for the airport. If an early flight matters, ask the hotel for a realistic departure recommendation based on the day and terminal.

Families and pets

The low-rise plan, pool and connecting-room possibilities make Anantara Siam approachable for families, but request the exact bedding arrangement before booking. The hotel publishes check-in at 3pm and checkout at noon. Early arrival, late departure, cots and rollaway beds depend on the room and availability.

For pets, the headline rule is one cat or dog up to 10 kg. Charges, designated rooms and public-area restrictions can change the experience, so obtain written confirmation of the full policy. A pet-friendly label never means an animal can enter every restaurant or pool area.

Meetings and events

The renovation also extends to event facilities, including the Grand Ballroom and 17 breakout rooms. Anyone planning a wedding or conference should request current capacity charts and a site inspection rather than relying on historical floor plans from before the works.

Who should stay

Choose Anantara Siam for a resort-like garden setting near the BTS, an established collection of restaurants and accommodation that can stretch from a refreshed room to a private pool villa. Travellers who prefer a new-build tower or riverfront panorama may find another Bangkok hotel better aligned.

Booking the renovated product

Ask the reservations team to name the exact room category and confirm that the assigned inventory reflects the completed renovation. If a particular textile scheme, garden outlook or connecting configuration matters, add it as a request but recognise that requests are not guarantees. Photograph the room category shown at checkout and keep the confirmation until arrival and final room assignment.
