Households affected by Thailand’s 2026 floods may qualify for a one-off THB 9,000 government payment. The scheme is intended for permanent residences in officially declared disaster-assistance areas, but floodwater at the door is not by itself enough. The home and the duration or effect of the flooding must meet the stated test, and local officials verify applications before payment.

This guide translates the current process into plain English. It is general information rather than a guarantee of eligibility. Conditions can vary with the declared area and evidence available, so applicants should confirm their case with the local administrative office.

The basic eligibility test

The payment is for a household’s permanent residence. A home may qualify where it was flooded for seven days or less and the property or belongings were damaged. A home may also qualify where flooding continued for more than seven days, or where surrounding water prevented normal daily life even if the interior situation differed.

The residence must be within an area formally declared eligible for disaster assistance. This declaration matters because the programme is administered through official local records rather than a national self-certification system.

One payment per home

The THB 9,000 is paid per eligible household, not per person living at the address. Several relatives cannot submit separate claims for the same home. If a building contains genuinely separate households, ask the local authority what registration and evidence are required for each unit.

Renters should not assume they are excluded, but they may need evidence that the affected address is their permanent residence. Owners whose property is rented to someone else should clarify which household is recognised for the scheme. Local verification is decisive.

How to apply

The government identifies two main routes. Applicants can use the Thang Rath application where the service is available, or apply through their local administrative organisation. Depending on the address, that may be a municipality, district office, subdistrict administrative organisation or another designated local unit.

Prepare identification, proof connected to the residence and any photographs or records of damage that the local office requests. Do not pay an intermediary to “guarantee” approval. Government assistance applications should use the named official channels.

From verification to payment

Verification and payment

Local authorities check the address, affected period and household information before forwarding an approved case. The Government Savings Bank then handles payment through PromptPay linked to the eligible person’s national identification number.

Check that the PromptPay link to the national ID is active and attached to the intended bank account. A mobile-number PromptPay registration is not necessarily the same setup. Our PromptPay guide explains the system, but your bank should confirm the exact registration on your account.

Bangkok eligibility

The government stated on 27 September that Bangkok uses the same eligibility criteria as the provinces. A Bangkok address still needs to fall within a declared assistance area and pass the household test. City residence does not create automatic eligibility, and it does not remove it.

Bangkok applicants should follow instructions from their district office and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration. Keep copies or screenshots of anything submitted and note the office, date and reference number for follow-up.

Separate support for deaths

A different measure provides THB 2 million in support for a death directly caused by flooding or a landslide. That is separate from the THB 9,000 household payment and involves its own evidence and verification. Bereaved families should contact the relevant local authority for case-specific help rather than relying on summaries shared through social media.

If immediate safety or rescue assistance is needed, contact emergency services. Administrative benefit guidance should never delay evacuation, medical care or urgent disaster response.

The October transition

Thailand’s new national disaster-insurance approach is scheduled to begin on 1 October 2026. The government has described the THB 9,000 measure as applying to relevant disasters from 15 May through 30 September before that transition, helping avoid an overlap between systems.

Events crossing the changeover may require individual clarification. Ask the local authority which scheme applies based on the disaster declaration and affected dates. Do not assume that an earlier application automatically transfers to a later insurance process.

Avoid common mistakes

Use the permanent residence, submit through an official channel and make sure names and identification numbers match across documents. Verify the national-ID PromptPay link early. Be cautious of messages asking for fees, passwords, one-time codes or a transfer to release the benefit.

Where to confirm your case

Your municipality, district office or local administrative organisation is the best first point of contact because it knows the declared area and verification schedule. The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation hotline 1784 can provide general disaster guidance.

Keep expectations realistic until the application is verified. The THB 9,000 payment can help with immediate household recovery, but it does not replace insurance, full damage compensation or personalised legal and financial advice.
